The Future of Kindergarten

“So . . . be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,
you're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So...get on your way!”
The teacher smiled as she closed Dr. Seuss’s ‘The Places You’ll Go'. She set the book gently onto her lap. The children sat crossed-legged on the multi-coloured interlinking safety-mats and looked-up at their teacher, eyes filled with wonder; but their teacher saw the sleep creeping in.
“Okay, children, it’s naptime. Grab your blankets and put your flak jackets on, like I showed you. I’ll get the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle; I’ve been trained to kill so there’s nothing for you to worry about if the Boogieman comes through the door. After naptime we’ll talk about our country’s forefathers, how this is the world they envisioned for you. This is the life they wanted you to have. This is the freedom they dreamt of for all children. Sleep well, little ones, sleep well. Dream pleasant dreams of the type of world you’d like to have; you’ll be the ones who’ll turn it into what it becomes.”
