I want a toaster with one setting: perfectly browned. Why they even make them with settings like, still white but slightly warmer and perhaps a little more crispy, and cremate, is beyond me.

First Day Back

My first day back as a writer-in-residence at James Cardinal McGuigan in Toronto went brilliantly. One of my students from last year came in to tell me he was going to be published. He glowed when told me. That is what makes the drive (3 hours each way) worthwhile.

Open Wounds

I always used to cover my wounds; then I was permitted to see: the only way to tell the civilized from the savage is to let yourself bleed; to discover who tries to heal your wounds and who begins to feed.

Revamping

I'm doing some revamping of the blog. So somethings may be disappearing and reappearing and changing. It's a process. I try to follow more than lead sometimes. Then go back and clean. I'm only seeking.

I loved the Olympic opening ceremonies last night. The musical talent displayed, the different seasons shown, the whales in the floor, the natives peoples, W.O. Mitchell paired with Joni Mitchell, the really cool flying harness, and K.D. Lang's version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah was brilliant.
The one arm not coming up at the end, and Gretzky in the back of a pick-up in the rain, wearing his mittens and all most falling over a couple of times, just added to it. Made it more laid back, more Canadian. :)
It’s all about having heart, not being anal.

A Horse

Some days I just want to get on my horse, ride into the wind and across the prairies. If only I lived on the prairies. Or, actully had a horse. Or knew how to ride. Or at least wasn’t afraid to try. But aside from all that, the first sentence still stands.

Life goes on. Mine will stop. Hence, it's not all about me.

Blueberries, raspberries, ice cream and chocolate sauce. That’s a whole lotta yummy.
