I started back in the classroom, last week, working with another group of students, and a different teacher, at James Cardinal McGuigan. They seem like a good bunch. A new semester: a new adventure.
I also did my reading at the Supermarket, in Kensington Market, Toronto. As always the staff at NOW HEAR THIS! did a great job of putting it together. It was wonderful to get to meet new NOW HEAR THIS! team member Whitney French, in person; to catch-up with Rachel Hopwood and talk to Mark Laliberte about the art world and his work in it. It was also great to hear readings from fellow SWAT writers, Elisabeth de Mariaffi and Roseanne Carrara. I'm so fortunate to be a part of this group.
Cheers to everyone who braved the rain and came out in support of the program and its authors. Especially, stage manager and friend, AJ Laflamme, who came for my reading and brought an umbrella.
I read from a work in progress: Tick Talk (working title). While in Toronto I dropped off a grant application, for the YA novel, at the Ontario Arts Council. The OAC staff was very helpful, especially Helen Floros, who took the time to look over my application.
Also, last week, I met up with Ed Gass-Donnelly and we extended the option on my feature script, Lavender(working title). A special thanks to Ed for coming down to the Supermarket before my reading so that we could have the meeting there, and for his ongoing belief in, support of, and work on, the script.
